Antique Italian Alabaster Bust, Signed Pugi — Hooded Female Figure

$1,500.00

A beautifully carved alabaster bust of a young woman wearing a draped hood tied at the back of the head, attributed to the Florentine sculptor Guglielmo Pugi (1850–1915) and signed "Pugi" in script on the reverse. Pugi was a celebrated Tuscan sculptor who worked from his Florence atelier, producing finely carved alabaster and marble figures that were widely sought by European and American collectors.

The carving is of exceptional quality, with particular attention to the intricate knotted drapery of the headscarf and the soft modeling of the facial features. The warm, translucent alabaster displays a beautiful aged patina consistent with authentic late 19th / early 20th century Italian craftsmanship. Condition, including some small chips and scratches, is as shown in photos.
