A beautifully matched desk set comprising a magnifying glass and letter opener, each featuring a turned bamboo handle with naturally occurring spotted markings and silver plate fittings with original aged patina. The two pieces are uniform in style and proportion, suggesting they were made as a set.

The combination of bamboo and silver plate was highly fashionable in late 19th century French decorative arts, reflecting the Japonisme movement that swept through European design from the 1870s onwards. The naturally spotted bamboo handles display the warm, honeyed tones of genuine aged material, and the tarnished silver fittings are consistent with authentic period craftsmanship.
